Home sellers in the Birmingham-Hoover metro area face a rough market.
Total dollar sales in the area fell to $266.4 million in June, a 10 percent drop from May, according to the market summary released last week by Tom Brander, editor and publisher of the Rudulph/Brander Monthly Birmingham Area Real Estate Report.
Only one other time in the past decade – 2002 – have sales dropped from May to June, according to Brander’s analysis.
“Normally June is an `up’ month,” Brander said, “so the decline is particularly worrisome.”
The report shows other signs of the housing slowdown in metro Birmingham-Hoover:
Total June sales of new and used homes this year were 37.5 percent below the June 2007 sales.
